Oakley Psychological Associates wants to understand individual differences, including those related to race, ethnicity, national origin, religious and spiritual beliefs, gender, sexuality, physical and mental abilities, size and appearance, and socio-economic status. We understand that developmental and mental health concerns in childhood and adolescence are impacted by forces within a child’s environment related to power and privilege, including racism, sexism, classism, homophobia, heterosexism, and other forms of marginalization and oppression. These factors are universal in the systems in which we live on a day-to-day basis. At Oakley Psychological Associates we try to recognize these factors and the impact they have on the children with whom we work and their families. While we strive for this, we also understand that this is an ongoing endeavor that will never have an “end point” and therefore continually challenge ourselves to strive towards inclusion and social justice.
